Links & Resources
If there is one thing I can't stress
enough it's the need to take the time to learn about the animals you are
caring for. Animals can teach us so much about our world if only
we take the time to learn about their world. I promise that I have
spent hours at each of the forums and own a copy of every one of the
books I recommend.
Websites
& Forums:
CornSnakes.com
This is the
first forum I found. I have learned so much there, and met some very
wonderful people along the way. Check out the search tool, where you
can enter keywords pertaining to what you want to investigate and
you will get a vast amount of links to threads specifically about
your topic! You can also find my Member forum by scrolling
down on the main page and looking for "Triple-R-Corns in Canada" and
clicking on it ;)
The Source
This Forum has thankfully undergone some big changes of late!
It is now under new ownership by Charles Pritzel and Connie Hurley
of CCC Corns. I very much admire this pair for all they have
done in the way of genetics and research for our hobby. They
also have tried to cut out some of the "unsavory" parts that have
previously affected that site location while it was under different
ownership! Good work guys and check it out if you haven't been
there lately, you might be surprised!
American Corn
Snake Registry The American Corn Snake Registry is still
in its fledgling stages, but it could certainly revolutionize the
herp world as we know it. Here we can track the lineage of assorted
snakes, and plan directions we may want to go. I have registered all
my breeder snakes and will pre-register clutches in the hopes that
new adopters may follow my example!
Books &
Newsletters:
Corn
Snakes: The Comprehensive Owner's Guide, by Kathy & Bill Love,
is truly a must have for every Corn Snake owner. The information is
logically laid out and very easy to read, not to mention that Kathy
Love is one of the friendliest, most helpful people on the planet!
Corn
Snakes in Captivity is a new book by Don Soderberg. It is a
favourite of mine particularly because of the sections on breeding.
It is perfectly laid out and even has a timeline on breeding you can
follow like a recipe. Very helpful for someone starting out! Keep
your eye out for his even bigger book which is due to be released
soon!
Cornsnake
Morph Guide goes over beginner genetics and how it pertains to
Corn Snakes. I particularly like the sections with segmented
pictures of Corn morphs and the average prices these morphs might
sell for.
